Oftentimes customers are unsure of the differences between parfum, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, and cologne. Why all of these categories? Well, let me explain...
These differences have to do with the amount of essential oils that are in each bottle of fragrance. Parfum is the version of perfume that has the highest. Then it's eau de parfum with the next highest. Following those, it's eau de toilette and finally, cologne.
Here is a table that generally shows the percentages of fragrant essential oils for each concentration:
Parfum 20-30% fragrant oils
Eau de parfum 15-20% fragrant oils
Eau de Toilette 5-15% fragrant oils
Cologne 2-4% fragrant oils
I hope that this information has helped you understand what sets these different types of "perfume" apart from one another.
